Just arrived in Melrose (Scottish borders) and parked up in the Caravan and Motorhome site and decided to go for a walk before it got dark.
Not quite to the main road when an Austin 7 (RP ?) went past heading away from Galashiels.
Too far away to get the reg number, so wondering who it was ?.

That would have been Jim Holyoake, in his Fabric Saloon - posts as "Austin Wood" on this forum

Jim,
was not close enough to wave, but was pleased to see a 7 passing.
Down here (from near Fraserburgh) to pick up new seats and carpets
from Ashington, so my 7 tourer should look a lot tidier in a few weeks.

Hi Martin,
I've been in Melrose for more than 10 years now. However my sister lived in your part of the world, King Edward, just outside Banff. She was a nurse at Fraserburgh Hospital.

Is it the same fabric saloon I sold to you in the 1960s?

No Robert,
Sadly the bodywork on that one disintegrated. A lot of the wood collapsed and the floopan got moth eaten. I did a lot of miles in it though. As a student at Dundee I did many trips up and down the A1/A68.
UR 7179 is still on the register, rebodied as a chummy.
I've had 3 Rubys, a 1934 Tourer and a Nippy too. The current fabric saloon since 2008 is my everyday transport. Fabric saloons are my favourite but the body is flimsy!

But they are relatively warm and quiet, particularly compared with steel boxes!
