Ruby's electric problems

I too am not keen on crimp connectors, preferring to solder and use heat-shrink tubing. One problem is the solder running an inch or more up the wire, leading to a likelihood of fracture at the end of the rigid soldered section. Has anyone tried with 'tinned' wire?
