Never done it but could you put an early type starter ring on the later cover plate?

That did cross my mind when I was talking about it with a friend earlier.

Would be good to hear if anyone can see a pitfall in doing that..

Hi Alan,

That is what has been on my supercharged mag engined Wragg car for the last 24 seasons. Never with a 1 1/8" crank and with a Hadley 1 1/2"  counterbalanced crank for the last 15 years.  The late flywheel has always been used and is very much lightened and has always used a Borg and Beck clutch plate with double springs either side if the three levers. I still use a rear facing starter.

Hi R,
Here are a couple of pics of ones I had done some time ago.

I also had the rear faced with the seal face, so the run centred. Just use a smaller seal.

I had ten done £40 each, you may be able to do better.

The one on the left will fit rear facing.

The one on the right obviously forward facing.

The other option is to enlarge the taper on an early flywheel which are readily available
