Archive sales
#1
The Archive is remarkably fortunate in that it has recently been donated a couple of significant artefacts. The first, an important Press cutting and Photo album that was the personal property of Gunnar Poppe, the Austin Works driver. This was another part of the generous donation from Adli Halabi. However, over the years, and before it came into Adli’s possession, the album has suffered somewhat and is in a parlas state. The second is the original artwork for the John Platts Spares Brochure, kindly donated by Tony Betts.

I have taken the decision to get them both restored professionally but this will cost at least £1000 if not more for the Gunnar Poppe album. It is an important artefact, but in its current condition, is unusable and certainly couldn’t be put out on any form of display or handled. The John Platts drawings will cost in excess of £400 to be conserved appropriately.

Both items are currently in the hands of the conservator who is producing a detailed report and estimate for her work to stabilise the two as I type this.

Sadly, the funds available to me are limited and, despite some generous financial donations by some Clubs and individuals, with the low key acquisition policy I have been following over the past couple of years plus some other outgoings (the Military Album conservation, for example and more appropriate storage conditions for existing material) funds available to me are dwindling. So this week, I have undertaken a review of the Archive’s Brochure collection and have identified a number of duplicates that either already existed or came about as a result of further donations from Adli. As a result, I am in a position to pass on the Brochures in the following list which I hope will get me closer to the sums I am wishing to spend.

Looking on the Archive web site will give you full details of each one (though I should point out that the item I am passing on may not be the *actual* item on the web site but will be in similar if not identical condition).  All are original publications, no reproductions and the prices I consider reasonable, but I can assure you they are probably less than if the item was offered on the open market. More importantly, this is more about a contribution of funds towards the work of the Archive. I am offering them to the Friends Forum members first and will expand my market once any interest has been dealt with here.

Do not hesitate to get in touch if you would like further details of any of the brochures. All sales will be made on a 'no quibble guarantee' if you are not totally happy with the item, it can be returned for a full refund. Postage will be at cost. To try and make this fair, I will deal with these only strictly in order of reciept of any email expressing interest sent to archivist@a7ca.org please use the Brochure number in your subject line.

Thank you....

Hugh

I hadn't realised just what interesting stuff there was in the archive. Clicking on those links was wonderful, and those are just the duplicates! Thank you.
