STEERING BOX grease/oil nipple
#1
Later (1936 +) hour glass box.
What is the grease nipple/oil nipple/plug thread???
As far as I can measure the dia is 3/8" (three eights inch) and 26 TPI.

I have one box that has what seems to be a tapered threaded nipple (26 tpi?)  but it only goes in by about 2 threads...not good.
Second has a parallel thread (26 tpi?) nipple also 3/8"  has a not very good thread but it does screw into both boxes.
A thread gauge of 26 seems to be a match.....NO NO...   just answered my own question.......screwed in a plug of wood and 26 TPIi showed gauge teeth a bit too far apart....researching finds 1/8 BSP is 28 TPI.  Confirmed by running a 1/8" BSP tap (no TPI marked on tap)  down both boxes. (at first looked like 27 tpi on unified thread gauge was a fit but too few threads for full check)

Spares parts  list :- grease nipple 2H21. Grease plug 2K4996  (Both seem to apply to same hourglass box).
This gives rise to another question...at change of steering box from grease nipple (2h21) to a top up plug (2K4996) was the top up plug a 1/8 BSP (see publication 1586 which shows a grease nipple 2H21 but lists filler plug 2K4996!!

Is there in existence an Austin publication list of part numbers for the nuts and bolts Austin used giving their size/thread type.

e.g. 2K5289 would be "setscrew 5/16 X 22tpi BSF 3/4 inch long".

I've always known 1/8" bsp as 28 t.p.i.

Woops yes I was misled by a website and thread gauge which so nearly fitted nipple thread into thinking 27.
HAVE EDITED MY POST TO SHOW 1/8 BSP 28 TPI.
