I'd be grateful for any sage words on the removal of the layshaft in the above box. There is conflicting advice in different publications. If the shaft is pushed rearwards second gear is forced against the part of the casting which supports the reverse idler. Haven't tried the push it forward method yet - thought it best to consult the broader community first.
