I have never had an issue with RH, though I am sure that people's individual experiences and circumstances will differ. I know Emma Airey and I am sure that she will always do her best to ensure the Austin 7 community is well served. The appontment of a liaison Officer between the Association and RH is to be welcomed and should be seen as a positive development for the ongoing relationship between the two organisations.

My view is that Insurance goes much further than just the annual premium and that should not be overlooked.

I recently had my renewal through from RH and was disappointed to see an increase across all vehicles (mixture of moderns and 7's), particularly given the publicity around the average insurance premium dropping by 14% over the last year due to Covid reducing the amount of claims being made. Everything was sorted satisfactorily after 5 minutes on the phone, but it would be nice not to have had to make the phone call in the first place.

I have always found RH to be responsive and good to deal with.
I never forget breaking down with head gasket failure on our New Year Day run. We were in the middle of nowhere, it was cold and drizzly and we had to use google maps to identify the country track we were on to guide in the recovery truck.
The omens were not good.
RH accepted that we knew that we would need recovery, not just a mechanic in a van. We waited just 45 mins for a breakdown truck and were called twice by RH with updates and to check we were OK.
We were home in the warm before the rest of the convoy had finished their main courses at the pub.

Re Insurance. Has anybody got any experience of insurance claims with RH. I ask this question because in the past I have shopped around for cheap insurance for my modern only to find that claims were very long winded and were never satisfactory resolved. My advice is when dealing with cheap insurance companies read absolutely everything then read again to make sure there are no loop holes. My view is you never know how good your insurance is until you make a claim.

hi charles.

ive only ever used RH for insuring the sevens, as they are a respected company.

and id rather stick with them.

BUT, at the momment there is a large part of the world thats useing COVID to make far more than they should do.

and i dont just mean the price of dogs and cats trippling in price. because more people now work from home and can look after a dog or cat etc. dogs prices going from £800 to £3,500. or even flight trippling in cost to make up for there losses. or even BEAULIEU charging MORE FOR LESS on this septembers international event.

recently i changed my internet supplier for taking advantage, i used them for over 15 years. and a well known insurance company that usses a phone for a logo again used for over 15 years.

id rather use a company that isnt taking advantage of the worlds situation at the momment. that way those that are will loose in the long run. by loosing customers.

ill see what happens with this years prices.

if we have someone who liaisons with RH, they may do well to reconise and report a problem. before it spreads. rather than loose a number of long term customers.

I take another view.
Any business that quotes a high renewal price that is magically amended downwards, either on complaint or because you have a "special contact" that  helps sort it isn't being straight and fair with customers. They rely on charging a premium for loyalty and inertia means that people don't question it, which in my book isn't what loyalty is about.

Quite some time ago an idiot driver rammed the passenger side of my special. RH service was excellent throughout and the car was professionally repaired to a high standard by a specialist restoration company. I currently have four classic/vintage cars -two of which are A7s- insured with RH, This year's renewal was over £500. I could probably get cheaper cover elsewhere but am loath to as I'm not sure that there would be an absence of nit picking in the event of a claim with other companies.

Generally I have been very happy with RH, especially their recovery service. They don't question a driver diagnosis of a terminal problem, they just get on with recovery in a cooperative manner. They have recovered me from the Stelvio Pass with my Riley when an oil pump plunger broke, and they made two recoveries on a modern Citroen in Calais which had a broken road spring, the first to the local Citroen main dealer who was useless, and the second to my local garage at home who had it fixed the next morning. I did have a problem once where a careless Range Rover driver scraped the side of my modern in Wales. Because I had paid for Legal Expenses Cover RH put it in the hands of their agent for this and they were useless, apportioning blame to me when my car was stationary at the time. I no longer pay the Legal Expenses premium so that won't happen again.

I have moved my modern car insurance this year saving me about £70 and it's still with NFU ,a reputable company and also a Honda monkey bike too.
I am reluctant to change the 7's insurance having good service over many years but may look at comparisons this year when the policy is due.

I'm building a Vintage special,Not a Seven.Can anyone offer or advise a suitable insurer ?

I use RH for my Riley as well as the Austins. It's still fair value and their recovery service is the best I have used. The RAC can be flexible: the internal gear stripped on the Riley mag soth west of le Mans, so they arranged a hire car to get me home, but it seemed that recovery of the Riley would be when they had a load for the transporter,estimated 6 weeks. I phoned and asked how much they had allowed for the recovery (over £600) and suggested that I could do it with my own trailer for less, to which they agreed. The following weekend we set off through the tunnel (RAC were paying!) as turn up and go, and we had 2 or 3 nights hotel accomodation and other meals and expenses including fuel, and finally billed the RAC about £430 having had a pleasant weekend in France, but I forgot to include the Dartford crossing!
