Austin seven tool roll
#1
quick question, will a 1933 RP saloon tool roll and grease gun work with a 1929 AD chummy?

For most routine maintenance tasks I don't see why not.

Of course, this assumes that some pragmatic, hard pressed or carefree former owner has not replaced fixings with whatever was to hand.

Regarding the grease gun, depends whether the grease nipples have been replaced with modern, high pressure nipples or whether the original (Enots?) type are retained. I always swap out to HP nipples as my cars are drivers not polishers and the HP type are much better.

The two forum threads below discuss the original Enots type and the more modern HP type grease nipples.

Vintage Car Parts stock a good selection of the more modern HP type grease nipples in BSP and BSF thread sizes and a couple of the Enots type.

There is also a great deal of variation with what is offered/described as correct tool rolls for various models. I spent a long timer assembling a correct 1933 tool roll based on the Austin spare parts booklets. It made me realise how many different grease guns etc were offered as being correct for 1933 when they were nothing of the sort. Having said that, as said by others, the grease gun doesn't fit the newer grease nipples anyway but the roll makes a nice addition to the car.

I also carry a scissor jack and use a socket wrench for wheel nuts. Having tried to change a wheel on an uneven surface with an old style jack once I won't do it again.
Enjoy yourself, it's later than you think!
