1930 Olympia Motor Show. "The Darling of the Gods" Austin 7
#1
Another restored cover. The first of the "long bonnet" A7s, with the usual modifications by Austin's publicity department - although, for once, the driver does appear to scale. The show took place just seven days after my Chummy, PL3002, was registered.

The two gentlemen appear more interested in the lady driver.

Compare the dress with today. Would not get such formal attire for a display of RR and the like. It seems strange that clothing was so complex and the mechanical devices so simple.
It is strange so many opted for the complexity and liability of the sunshine roof. i doubt if many ever used.

"The two gentlemen appear more interested in the lady driver."

They're only discussing "the price"....

They are asking how she stops the steering column grease dripping onto her beautiful outfit.

Why is the lady wearing Darth Vader's hat?

I like that being into old cars means you can dress appropriately. Not too over the top though. These days when socialising people seem to like to know what 'generation' you are from - Gen X, Gen Y, Millennial, etc. My girlfriend likes introducing me as pre war.

I thought for a moment that it was the cover of the 1930 programme for Bayreuth. Whilst ending with Gotterdammerung, that year the Ring Cycle began with “ The Darling of the Gods,”
