An H. R. Pope was apparently a British racing driver competing in 1913:

H R Pope drove a works Itala in the 1913 French GP but didn't finish. He was at that time, Chairman of Itala Ltd. Bill Boddy in his Brooklands history makes one reference saying that Pope's Itala driven by Fabry finished third in the second heat of the Marcel Renault Memorial Plate at the first Brooklands meeting in 1907.

Put 'H R Pope Itala' into Google for a lot more.
