BMW Austin 7 Dixi
#1
Hi guys.whilst trawling "fleabay"came acros this model and thought this looks a a lot like an Austin 7 so put in bid and won .Model now in my care .The information gives the following  .In 1927 the Wartburg Dixi works aquired the licence to build the Austin 7 from Eisenach for the German market  under the name Dixi 3/15 PS. At the end of 1928 after financial collapse BMW bought the the works and licence and continued to manufacture the Dixi until the licence expired in 1932.Now I am 76 year young OAP and never cease to be privilaged to learn something new every day .Is there anyone out there that has actually seen one in the flesh .Will post more pics when I have completed the build As I have just returned my 1939 Austin 8 AP tourer to which I fitted an A35 engine to, back on the road I will relax with my model making  until I get the urge to continue work on my 1929 Austin 7 Spanish Civil War Van .Cheers Ally

Rarer than the original teeth from a denture-equipped Bantam rooster..... I'm sure we would all love to see some pictures, and know a little of its history.

Here's one parked next to my RP saloon, at a gathering in Poussan, near Sète in the south of France, August 2016. The car is owned by a German who has had it since the 1960s.

You can see the rear is the same as the plastic model:

Hi All

I remember from my last trip to Gaydon being intrigued by the Dixi front suspension.

There was no axle, as such, with the swivels and radius arms being attached directly to the spring.  Quite how that affects handling I’m not sure?

Cheers

Howard

IFS makes it a BMW DA-4, not a Dixi; all Dixis and BMW 3/15s, DA-1s, 2s & 3s all retained the Austin front suspension.
