Hi where is the moveable third brush on the dynamo , can see two at the top and it feels like a third underneath. It seems that you should be able to move one of them with finger pressure only. Tried but all seem firmly fixed in place. Thanks Mike

There are two brushes that are diametrically opposite each other. The one that isn't is the third brush. The carbon brush is also much thinner than the other two. That's the one that slides on its mounting.

On my dynamo the third brush is locked in place by a screw, which has to be slackened to move the brush, then retightened

I think the big 7 has a 2 brush Dynamo . Robin Taylor is the big 7 contact. 01332 700629. robin.e.taylor@talk.net

Thanks for all your help, found a loose wire and was able to move the third brush to give a much better charge, methinks the loose wire was most if not all the culprit for giving only a low charge when revved. Mike

Belated but there are three later style dyamos, the DEL 4 pole, 35A and 35M. As above the brush may be locked by a screw. The 2 main brushes on the 4 pole are at 90 deg , which can be puzzling. And it cannot be emphasised too much, the dyn was intended to just balance the original load with mere 18w headlamps. Should not exceed 8-10 amps charge unloaded.
