Inriguing. I am not up with 3D printing but if the material is plastic much must be somewhat  frail. 
About 20 years ago I read a book by some bloke who had fabricated exact models of mostly exotic cars, Duesenberg etc. All done in metal. engines etc fabricated from brass parts shaped and easi flowed together. Spoke wheels were laced with wire. An interesting read but I cannot recall the title.
