Chummy exhaust silencer mounting
#11
It sounds like your best bet is to cut off the front mounting and fix the back under the rear cross-member like Steve has done.

From your picture Steve it looks as though the silencer body is too long and the bracket too short. On my car there is just enough room to fit the tail pipe through the rear cross member and push it back as far as it will go. Then the inlet pipe at the front will just fit through the front cross member.
On my RK I had the tail pipe turned outwards initially but found it sucked exhaust fumes in, even when extended well into the airstream. RK doors tend not to fit too well! Now with it tucked underneath I don't get fumes in the car.

I'll give that a go Austin once I get the car on the road.

The silencer may well be non original as the tail pipe was short  - about  3 inches or so and had no bend in it.  The tail pipe was purchased from a cherished supplier so I made the pipe clamp to hold it on.

Steve,

I use this type on SWB cars - they are as near to original as I can find.

Thanks Ruairidh,
I'll probably get one once the car is done.
