I fit these by putting a small bolt upwards through the cap, tube and cup but not protruding above the tube at the top. The bolt needs to be smaller than the 1/4 BSF that fits, but as big as possible to pass through.
While holding the 1/4 BSF bolt in position in the hole in the cap I then hit the end of the cap smartly with a hammer. This causes the spring to compress enough for the bolt to pass into the tube and cup. The small bolt drops out and the boltcan be tapped right through.

As I must have too much time on my hands and some scrap metal I decided to make a clamp and it works a treat.
