Hi Spannerman

I’m just doing this at the moment.

Here’s my first attempt. I need to tidy up the aluminium spacers.

I’ve used 1/4 BSF countersunk set screws through the backplate rivet holes (they need opening out to fit). The aluminium is tapped and a chase milled to locate the stays.  The stays are 10mm diameter 1mm thick steel flattened to fit the chase. By tapping the aluminium you can remove the stays without disassembling the brakes.

My milling is terrible and needs to be redone but it gives you an idea.

Cheers

Howard

Here's the setup on one of my cars. Obviously, these are hydraulic backplates, but the same setup should work on Austin factory backplates. There are three countersunk 5/16" screws though the backplate, these are locked off with nuts on the outside of the backplate which also act as spacers. The steel tubes are brazed to the steel plate which is secured to the backplate with three more nuts.
