1927 magneto
#1
Hello all,
I have a non-standard magneto on my car, which was an unknown quantity, and turns out to be not great.
Plug three doesn't have a good spark under load, and the plug is wet with fuel when removed after running.
Power is obviously down as a result.
Does anyone know of any mags for sale please?
Many thanks
Steve

If 1,2 and 4 spark OK, wouldn't it indicate that the "distributer cap" has a leak to earth around the number 3 cable. If the other plugs show a fat spark, then the magneto is working OK and its more a case of distribution of the "spark".

For what it would cost it may be worth trying a slightly hotter plug Champion D21 - <the green spark plug company> have them.
Be interested to know if that does the trick.
Good luck.

Thanks for the replies.
I will have a good look at the cap of the magneto, and try a hotter plug.
It would be great to get this mag functioning rather than replace.

Where are you based? Karl at Vintage Magnetos in Bicester could probably help you out but rebuild cost is not cheap.

Other options are available and I can highly recommend Bill Brown at http://brightsparkmagnetos.com/

Thanks for this, much appreciated.
I am in Wells, Somerset.
I will try the two firms suggested, and hope they can help me out.
