Thanks, Duncan!

For those of you that don't know, Duncan built a splendid new fuel tank for the van.  It's based on the original AVK design and is considerably shallower than the saloon tank, but wider front-to-back.  It also has an extended filler pipe on the "wrong" side.

Go on, build a van, you know you want to!
If I had nothing better to do and a rolling chassis with engine and gearbox I'd quite fancy doing a newspaper delivery model with no nearside door and roller-shutter rear ( or did I imagine seeing an image of one of these? I can't seem to find it)

Nice work, Martin and Duncan! What are the additional mounting brackets for? My original tank attaches to the existing mounts on the chassis extensions. My AVK project is stalled at the moment because I simply can't get into the workshop for junk! I'm currently trying to sell a veteran Pittler lathe on e-bay to clear some space...
Someone really should rescue that body from the States before it gets rodded.

Martin - and perhaps others - If you say that historically there never was a Ruby Mk. 1 Van, you've obviously never been to Australia.  The only difference I recall was that the spare wheel didn't fit into the rear floor gap as in later models, the doors were clean to their base.  The spare was either carried inside or on the roof, whereas our Utes did have the hatch under the tailgate for the 5th wheel. There is an Austin Van body (supposedly AVJ from 1938) for sale on ebay in USA (Burnaby BC) for very little money ($65 at present, 3 bidders) Dry stored for "years" in a repair shop that is closing, Sorry cannot post the link, but it is on the "Orphan Austins " section of other vehicles on the MG experience site (all clear?)
