Mystery Tappet.

I have recently been loaned this tappet shown below in my quest for non adjustable Ulster tappets.
   I wonder if anyone can tell me what it is from?

Colin,
   the tappet is the same length as a standard adjustable one.
  The cap is 7/16" diameter and a nominal 1/4" high when fitted to the tappet.
     Do you perchance have any thoughts about it?

Hi Robert,
                   Judging from those sizes when fitted would have about 5/16" gap between cap & valve stem
                   even with a high lift cam would still leave 1/4"
                   My thinking is did they use longer stemed Valves in the Ulster Engines
                   The removable cap does allow for catering for different length valves ether by making a longer cap or
                    grinding the cap down

Yes I believe they did use longer valves and different springs, I can not however say for sure that this is an Ulster follower.

they used longer valves in the grasshopper.

Could they be Brooklands tappets? seem to remember a period spec that mentioned longer valves in the Brooklands motors. Also see here. http://www.motorsportmagazine.com/archiv...orts-model

Ulster valves are longer than the standard ones and are tulip type.
