What have you done today with your Austin Seven
Seems to have been a 'mirror' day !.
For quite a while I have had an annoying rattling sound which I thought was somewhere around the front of the car, possibly
bonnet or somewhere on the front of the car.
Well today while out for a run to the doctors (don't ask), I had to slightly adjust the internal rear view mirror. The sound went away.
Let the mirror loose and rattling re-appeared. Turns out the mirror was touching the windscreen, hence the rattling.
So back home and took the mirror off, all fixings loose !.
So 2 minutes with screw drivers and a small felt sticky backed pad, put all back together.
Another run and that rattle has gone away, unfortunately this was masking other rattles. More to do or do I just ignore them !.

I am reminded of the wonderful bit in 'Yes, Prime Minister' where Sir Humphrey is upbraiding Jim Hacker for  suggesting unilateral nuclear disarmament by telling him that it wasn't the Russians we needed to worry about, but the French (on the basis that they had been our enemies for 900 years)

It's a bit problematic for me because I have dual nationality. I just tell everyone I'm Scottish for the sympathy vote.

Today I bought a 1931 RN as a do-up project. Now that my Ruby is running quite well, I felt the need to have something else to fettle.
The motor needs restarting after many years without running. A repaint of the body is required and quite a lot of interior refurbishment will be required.
It was trucked to my recently rented storage unit which looks rather stark, but will soon be messy.

Wow, an original radiator core! It looks pretty sound too.

I was supposed to be attending the local old car meet last night and for the first time ever, the Austin didn’t start…cleaned out the carb jets this morning and it’s going like a rocket again!

The reason Brits claim to be at odds with the French is that they are cantankerous, difficult and vain...just like us...
However as a lifelong Francophile I don't get this at all...comin' over here with their furrin talk and all that garlic. If I had my way I'd ban them!

AS many of you may know, I am not a fan of static classic car displays or indeed 'noggins and natters', not that we have such things here in North Wales. which seems to be a desert when it comes to organised classic/vintage motoring. I much prefer to get out and about with my Seven, doing things for which it was built.

Yesterday was no exception. I had occasion to go over to Dolgellau in the afternoon. I parked it in Eldon Square and when I came back from my errand, there were several people gathered round it, so I spent the next ten minutes or so chatting to them about the car.

Rather than coming back along the main A494, I decided to take the scenic rout from Dolgellau to Rhydymain though the lanes via Llanfachreth.

Here are some photos, taken with the little Kodak DC20 that lives in the car's glovebox, so no apologies for the poor quality. The camera is now 28 years old and is probably vintage in its own right for a digital instrument:

On the way out of Dolgellau, I found this bank covered with wild freesias.

There were a couple more, but , in transferring them from one file to another, I appear to have mislaid them!

I've spent two days helping to install a rebuilt engine in a friend's Ruby      , the job was somewhat protracted as he'd lost the box of parts, nuts & bolts removed when the engine was taken out necessitating numerous trips home for buts.

Last Saturday, which seems lifetime ago now, we visited the Richmond Light Railway near Headcorn in Kent. We went there last year for the first time, as David had noted above, we also are not lovers of static displays, but this one is all about raising money for charity and so happy to do our bit along with a grand number of wonderful steam engines.
This is a privately owned narrow gauge railway that has been created by the owner and a band of willing volunteer steam engine enthusiasts.
Unfortunately Ruby was not herself on our outward journey but we made the outward trip in good time. However on our return home heading up a long steep climb and nearing the summit she died. A couple of panic turns of the starter and a bit of coughing she fired up and off we went again ......... until the very next steep hill and nearly reaching the summit she coughed and died. These were narrow lanes and so the good lady took charge of directing traffic and I was joined under the bonnet with a local who had seen come to a stop. We checked and the spark was good, I then checked the fuel filter under the floor and whilst clean and apparently dirt free there was a large bubble of air. The local went to the back and gave a blow into the fuel filler pipe, I got out and wizzed the pump, fired her up and off we went again as if nothing had ever happened.
Never had this before, is there anything I should be checking for future reference??
Anyway I will try to attach some pics which hopefully you may find of interest.
