Reusing head gasket
#11
Another thought is to use a solid copper head gasket.  My brother in law used one in his P type MG Midget  which he frequently raced and trialed and when reusing it he just hung it up and re-tempered it  by heating it to just cherry red (with a blow-lamp) thus softening it again.

On the advice of the chief engineer of Bristol Cars I made a solid copper gasket for my 2 litre Bristol 405. I am not a time served super dooper engineer and don't remember the process being too difficult.
The reason for needing the gasket was that due to a blow between 2 cylinders 10 thou had to be skimed off the head which had already been previously skimmed so extra thick gasket was required to get back to minimum combustion chamber depth.  The car went just as well after.

I wonder if club suppliers might consider having some solid copper head gaskets of different thicknesses made?
