David Wortley's Special

Sheffield Groupe meeting. 
David Wortley wasn't there; his foot is still recovering (no, it wasn't run over by an electric car). However, at the last Sheffield Group evening meeting, two of the cars he'd built were there side by side for the first time in a very long time. The owner tells me that when David built the superb fabric-bodied 'Wortley Special', he intended it to be a masterpiece of detailed repurposing. Items used included body-shell bracing made from the tubes of a child’s garden swing; a dashboard light made from the bottom section of a Victorian sink tap, suitably bored out and fitted with a Lucas badge; choke and other pull knobs turned from a lavatory cistern pull handle; and he even made the bonnet hinge. I'm sure, knowing the ingenious David, there must be many more

Very nice but in this weather I prefer my RN saloon where I can open the sunshine roof just the right amount, there was one owner of an Ulster who was roasted while stuck in traffic on his way to Morton.

One of my sons has a Golf convertible, and he quickly discovered that the most enjoyable time to have the hood down in the summer is early in the morning and the evening.

In this weather I have the sunshine roof open except in the early evening when the sun is low and shining just above the windscreen peak.

Total build cost of the Wortley Special was two bob and a blackie's egg. Very ostentatious.
