Can anyone please advise if I can use a coil engine starting dog on a mag engine? I have a crank which suits only a coil starting dog, and since I don't have a lathe to hand, it would be simpler to substitute the later dog, than modify the magneto engine dog that I have.

Not easily, if you wish to use the starting handle or stop oil flying out the front.

I can modify the mag stater dog to suit the crank you have and return it to you the same day - if that helps.
