Hello all,
I'm reassembling a front axle and am aware that the brake cams are handed.
Is there an easy way to see which is which? There are no markings on the cam.
Depending on which one I use the brake levers end up pointing either slightly forwards or slightly back - could anyone tell me which is correct?

Thank you - it's the orientation of the actual cams though that I'm not sure about

A relevant question may be what style of brakes are you assembling Rupert? The cams on semi-girling should be stamped on their 'ends' (where the lever clamps on) with such things as FOS or RNS. Sometimes these stampings are quite hard to make out...

Assuming it is a pre-girling set up, the front levers point downwards and forwards, with the ball of the lever facing the backplate.
The rear levers point downwards and rearwards, again with the ball facing the backplate.
Ergo, the front nearside cam becomes the rear offside cam.

Thanks all - it's an early 6 inch set up. I'd assumed pointing forward would make more sense from a leverage perspective
