Lovely to have all these engines together in the garage - a 10 stud Ulster with a 9B head, a 75, and a 65.

Are both the 65 and 75 blocks 9E ?

I have one 9E block without the Chromidium Diamond and one with the Diamond.

The one without the diamond has 9E stamped at one end and 9E cast inside the valve chest at the middle bottom it still has Tulip valves with the square recess for valve grinding.

No Ivor, I'm not. None of the trio are my property!!
I just like working on them. 
It's a pleasure to look at a 10 stud block engine and to note the various subtleties in design and make up, even in the crankcase.

The 65 is a standard block.

I envy you having these engines to work on.  It must give you considerable insight into the development of the ‘sports’ engines. I especially like the intake manifold arrangement on the 75.

The chrome plated intake manifold on the Ulster can’t be standard can it?

I would be very interested in seeing the combustion chamber shape and volume of the 9B head for comparison against a 9E.

The car spent some time in the States - the Americans love to plate anything!!
75 and 65 intake manifolding is identical and thus interchangeable.

On the 65 engine I've just found     that the head is bronze. Photo enclosed.
Can anyone advise who made these and when? 
The Patent number refers to the Ricardo improvement of cylinders of ICEs, dated 22.07.1919.  
Internal head profile is identical to the Works 9E head.
There's always something new to find about Sevens despite " playing " with them for over fifty years!
