Rare BSF quest - Ray White - 18-03-2023

Please help!

I am looking for some 3/16" BSF c/s slot head machine screws.  They need to be at least 3/4" long.  I have 10 but I need another 6.

Unfortunately, it seems some BSF screws are becoming harder to find.  I might consider buying a larger quantity if needs be.  Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you,

Ray.

I agree 3/16BSF have become very hard to find.

In a non critical application buy M5 and run a BSF die over them to shave a bit off. The pitch is almost identical, you just need to take 0.2mm off the diameter.

Thanks for the tip, Martin.

As it happens I have been directed to 'Stainless Automotive Fastenings' website and purchased what I need.

Not cheap these days!!

Thanks anyway.

10-32 UNF fasteners are in practical terms directly interchangeable with 3/16" BSF as they are both 32 TPI. 10-32 screws are a lot easier to find than BSF fasteners.
Theoretical purists will point out that the thread angles differ, pretty well all US fasteners having a 60 degree angle, whereas British Standard anything threads (except Cycle) have a 55 degree thread angle. 3/16" fasteners are usually just used for attaching bits and bobs, if that's not the case, then matching the male and female threads really does matter.
