Rear brake adjustment - John Mason - 01-01-2022 Happy New Year to all. I am trying to adjust the rear brakes on my Mk1 Ruby. I am using the cable adjusters sold by most cherished suppliers where they hook over the cable and tighten with a thumb screw. With the handbrake on two notches the thumb screw gets very tight well before all the thread is used up but the wheels still rotate freely. I have checked the linings and there is plenty of meat left on them but I notice that the brake cam has turned quite a lot without activating the brakes. Is it possible that I need some further shims on the brake shoes or new brake cams. (The brake shoes were modified when relined a few years ago due to wear against the brake cam.) John Mason. RE: Rear brake adjustment - Ruairidh Dunford - 01-01-2022 New brake drums might be a better bet. |
