How to make your magneto work properly... - Ruairidh Dunford - 04-05-2021

And boy, does it work!

But should the Blic have the larger hole gap or the smaller - I (mistakenly?), thought the latter...

I have a similar arrangement with my ML to get the full range of advance & retard

And this is where my question stems from - I thought the ML mags required the larger gap hole type and BLICs the smaller gap hole type... I have a BLIC...??

Daisy was very kind - but only with the new stuff, no vintage stuff was harmed during this modification. She is very watchful of her (extensive) collection!

So what was the original arrangement? Was the set up always deficient in its actuation, or did the original not use this type of magneto?

Two types (at least) of arm exist - to be used with the different types of magnetos - see my comment to Charles to explain where my understanding of their pairing and resultant confusion is Jon.

hi R,

like everything, its a mine field.

there are also blic mags with a small distance of travel on the advance.

one of the six i have has a small travel, the other 5 are the sameĀ  as yours.

thanks tony.

Excuse my ignorance. What is the 'hole gap' please?

RE: How to make your magneto work properly... - Ruairidh Dunford - 05-05-2021

It is the gap between the farthest two holes in the adv/ret arm Bob.

My adaptation has a nickel screw in the original hole and the Mecanno extends to the position of the alternative, "long gap hole arm".
