GE Cup contemporary picture - turned to colour. A better example of the AI technique.

AI - presumably not Artificial Insemination, Tony? Although technically correct!
These things are lovely but I shudder for the future historical pronouncements that will inevitably come from such pics when they get separated from your threads!
Anyone know anything about XE1?

RE: GE Cup contemporary picture - Mike Costigan - 28-12-2020

I think XE 1 is a Fiat 509. (The registration number is now on a 2004 Rolls Royce).

RE: GE Cup contemporary picture - Steve Jones - 28-12-2020

Are you sure the number is XE-1 rather than A, B,C etc XE-1 given that the number plate is partially hidden?

It does look like a Fiat 509 but we have an expert on such cars as a regular poster so no doubt he'll confirm or otherwise.

Steve

Yes, Steve, I'm sure it's XE 1 from the positioning of the digits. Also, AXE 1 dates from December 1933, and I'm sure the photo pre-dates that.

Seems XE 1 has now been transferred onto a Rolls belonging to a company in the Nottingham area:

RE: GE Cup contemporary picture - Dave Wortley - 29-12-2020

Not the most handsome Rolls Royce. It has the appearance of an American road train tractor unit.

RE: GE Cup contemporary picture - Steve Jones - 29-12-2020

But attractive to the market it's aimed at, Dave. I don't think that's the likes of you and me!

Just seen a pink RR on BBC 2's "Monaco." Not for thee and me Steve!
