Genuine Bosch distributor spares. - Robert Foreman - 20-08-2020

I am seeking some spares to rebuild a Bosch distributor. Namely a condenser and a spring for the advance mechanism.
  Any pointers gratefully received.

Genuine Bosch spares are going to be very difficult to find, Robert. Bosch haven't made 009 distributors for some years now. Lots of Chinese/Indian/Turkish options available that are something of a lottery. However, German Beru parts are made in Germany and are very good quality and whilst I do buy good quality 009 type units to convert, I always throw the cap, rotor arm, points and condensers away and fit Beru replacements. Available from https://www.machine7.com/ The serious Riley people who also use converted 009 distributors mostly do the same.

Many thanks Steve.

For an ultra reliable condenser use a Swiftune competition condenser earthed to the distributor body with twin cable for feed and earth(see photos)  Terry.

Just as a point of interest, what is the difference between using the distributer body for earth as opposed to any other place for an earth ie: the mounting bolt for the coil.

To answer bob46320.  The condenser carries a pulsed current with high frequency components.  For best effectiveness, the inductance of the entire circuit comprising both condenser leads and the contact breaker points should be minimised by keeping the wires short.  Earthing the condenser remotely results in a longer connection with a higher inductance (even if the resistance is low).

Having said all that, it would probably still work !

I had the distributor for my Vauxhall GT rebuilt (and recurved for modern gas) by Jeff Schlemmer in Minnesota USA. Website here: http://advanceddistributors.com/wordpress1/ he mentions on the website that he does Bosch.

I found him very personable and trustworthy. (though I haven't finished the GT)

I have been using Beru spares for a few years now but note that the 'made in Germany' has now changed to 'made in Turkey'. Hope the quality stands up.

oh, and Willie M at Austin 7 repro parts sells both the full distributor and Beru rotor arms etc, I think at £5 each.

I also picked up a black cap at last year's Practical Classic show for £5 from Accuspark to make the 009 a little less stand out, here:
