Newbie....can anyone tell me what model and year this is? - Anthony Mc - 14-04-2020

Looking at buying my first Seven ...and would appreciate any details you could tell me about this car. Thanks

That looks like it's an Australian-bodied Seven from the late 1930s. No doubt one of our Australian friends will confirm just what it is.

That a very nice-looking car. I'm sure that Mike's right. Do you know the chassis number? It should be possible to date it within a month or so from that. See http://a7ca.org/downloads/QuoteThisNumber.pdf for a guide to finding all of the important numbers

Looks like a Holden bodied tourer.

Mike, thanks for the suggestion. Based on your experience, would you say it is a Ruby Big Seven...with the LWB.. or is that an incorrect assumption given the Australian body?

It's a tourer based on the Ruby design, using standard Austin Seven parts. The Big Seven was a totally different car, slightly larger than the Seven although the same basic design:

Thanks Mike.....appreciate the clarification and info.
Are you aware of any mods/conversions that could improve the appeal/look of the standard car...?
It is impossible to find a super or a super accessories here, so like to explore opportunity to respectfully make the car a little more like a classic sports/racer....without butchering the thing.

As the car looks to a correct, period body (and one that appears to be both quite rare and in sold condition) it would be a shame to alter it in any way. If you'd like something more sporty, could you find an unfinished "special", or a complete but shabby one, and work on that instead?

Absolutely with Tony on this, it would be a shame to destroy what looks, from the photos, to be quite a presentable car. There are too many instances of restorable cars being broken to create specials of dubious quality, particularly when (here in the UK, to be fair) there are plenty of donor chassis etc that could be used as the basis for such a creation...

Agree with the chorus of ' don't destroy a good Ruby tourer '.
There is much that can be done, remove the hood and make a tonneau cover, paint in a colour and style of your choosing.
Or maybe a different roofline like this

You may be better off looking at an alternative car as the performance will never be 'sporty/racing' .
