Front hub nut size - spannerman - 17-03-2020

Can you help please just wanting
To know the nut size on the
Front hub ,I think it will have to
Be a box spanner as there does not
Seem a lot of space to get a socket in?

RE: Front hub nut size - Douglas Alderson - 17-03-2020

Not sure the size but I recently had to undo the nut and spent far to long trying to find the right spanner only to find out that someone had fitted a none standard A7 nut on the hub right thread but head to big.  I was lucky as on looking at the other hub I could spot the nut was wrong, may be worth having a look to see if the wrong nut is fitted.

Remove the brake drum then use the puller to remove the hub outer.
Then use a socket or ring spanner to remove the nut.

The nut is 7/16W.

I have thinned the outside of a suitable socket down, with a bench grinder, so that it can be removed with dissembling the hub.

Thanks see how it can be.done now
By removing outer hub first , back all ready
Taken apart ! Just fitting sealed bearings as brakelining
We're covered in grease so need replacing!

The standard Austin 7 toolkit Box or Tube Spanner does the job.

The 14mm spark plug long socket supplied with older socket sets [mine is Elora] but most makes are the same, will fit without the need for grinding the outer
surface. The actual socket size is 7/16 bsf.

+1! I've been using a 14mm plug spanner for the last forty years!

14 mm plug spanner goes on thanks
Problem solved.

RE: Front hub nut size - spannerman - 18-03-2020

Well pulled both sides off today found
It better to pull outer part of hub off
First makes it easier to remove spitpin
From nut put outer back on and pull
The complete hub off , backplates repainted
New sealed bearings tomorrow!
