Handbrake Rivets - Matt_Harnden - 02-11-2019

Bit of a basic question but what technique would you recommend for removing the two rivets that hold the handbrake mechanism to the chassis? They are loose on my car and I want to replace them with high tensile bolts. Thanks.

Hi Matt

If you have a steady hand grind them off with an angle grinder.  If not a well sharpened cold chisel and a lump hammer works. This latter method is made easier if the rivets are loose enough to get the chisel under the head.

Good luck

Howard

If you decide to use a cold chisel, drilling through the centre of the rivet's domed head first will make the job a lot easier and should prevent the chassis becoming distorted or torn as you work.
