1927 Chummy #4 Door catch plate - Nick Salmon - 03-10-2019

Investigating of why the doors pop open at inconvenient moments when driving, I find that the catch plates are simply screwed in place over the solid metal - there is no hole/slot for the sprung catch to go into so it can fully engage. At the moment it is barely hanging on by its fingertips to the edge of the catch plate slot.

I cannot see any sign of one ever having been cut. Do I cut a slot or is the catch plate incorrectly fitted?

The slot provides a secondary security catch, the door latch when fully closed should locate inside the body frame.

Ah. Thanks Mike. It is therefore a matter of adjustment because at the moment the door will not close sufficiently to allow the latch to go past the inner edge of the catch plate.

You need to cut some material away from the trim board to allow it to sit more central Nick.
