1927 magneto - Steve Clare - 15-09-2019 Hello all, I have a non-standard magneto on my car, which was an unknown quantity, and turns out to be not great. Plug three doesn't have a good spark under load, and the plug is wet with fuel when removed after running. Power is obviously down as a result. Does anyone know of any mags for sale please? Many thanks Steve RE: 1927 magneto - bob46320 - 15-09-2019 If 1,2 and 4 spark OK, wouldn't it indicate that the "distributer cap" has a leak to earth around the number 3 cable. If the other plugs show a fat spark, then the magneto is working OK and its more a case of distribution of the "spark". RE: 1927 magneto - Nick Turley - 16-09-2019 For what it would cost it may be worth trying a slightly hotter plug Champion D21 - <the green spark plug company> have them. Be interested to know if that does the trick. Good luck. RE: 1927 magneto - Steve Clare - 17-09-2019 Thanks for the replies. I will have a good look at the cap of the magneto, and try a hotter plug. It would be great to get this mag functioning rather than replace. RE: 1927 magneto - Geoff101 - 18-09-2019 Where are you based? Karl at Vintage Magnetos in Bicester could probably help you out but rebuild cost is not cheap. RE: 1927 magneto - Hugh Barnes - 18-09-2019 Other options are available and I can highly recommend Bill Brown at http://brightsparkmagnetos.com/ RE: 1927 magneto - Steve Clare - 18-09-2019 Thanks for this, much appreciated. I am in Wells, Somerset. I will try the two firms suggested, and hope they can help me out. |
