Just tripped over this.

If ever there was a case of Caveat Emptor this has to be it. Love the description of the 'original' headlamps!!

Steve

classy historic securing for the front badge - prototype cross heads?

RE: Austin 7 racer - Nigel - 16-02-2019

I was following up on Randy Regier's 'Anna Isaak' racer, http://findclassicars.com/other-makes/29064-1940-racer-tank-race-car-art-car-museum.html

A much better buy - at least it's an honest deception!

Anyone else who owns a Super Accessories Sportsman bodied special would be surprised to learn that this one is a prototype. I remember those bodies being stacked upright along the wall when I was taken by one of my brothers to "Supers" as a kid.

They seem coy about showing the engine.

RE: Austin 7 racer - Nigel - 18-02-2019

I’m not qualified to cast judgement on the car, but the sale title, “1936 Austin Prototype Racer – 1 of a Kind Race Car – Full documentation & History”, is patently misleading.
“The detailed history of this car is as intoxicating as the little racer itself.” As Dave points out, not only is the vendor coy about showing the engine, but equally coy about the car’s implied racing history. "Essentially priceless", it is not.
What a pity that all the breathless puff in the ad, casts doubt on an otherwise interesting little car.

RE: Austin 7 racer - Erich - 18-02-2019

Dave, they have two photos of the engine here. http://www.gearsmotorsports.com/1936AustinPrototype116.html#

I find it interesting how the bill themselves as a "remarketing firm". A new word for me.

I'm sure there are plenty of gullible Americans with more dollars than brain cells that will be tempted. They'll pay a lot for what is effectively just a kit-car. Trying to sell it using the current claims in the description in the UK would get you arrested.

RE: Austin 7 racer - Dave Wortley - 18-02-2019

Erich, thanks for info. It looks nicely done. Not my cup of tea and many unnecessary words. Has it got Pheonix crank etc? Not seen a price anywhere but looking at it on my mobile. How much are they asking for it?
