I tend to give my Ruby plenty of rest days, but also use is on many days. This week is our town's annual Festival of Entertainment and Visual Arts so when there is something happening in the Market Place I often attend in the seven. The entertainers keep the kids busy while grandparents look at the car.

RE: What have you done today with your Austin Seven - Reckless Rat - 15-08-2023

Despite the hot summer weather we had a bit of cloud cover this morning so I decided to get the RP out and give it a run round the block. It started up first pull, as usual and off we went. I had forgotten it was a Bank Holiday (fête de l'Assomption) today so the town of Saint Ambroix was very busy due to the local market and the festival. I managed to have a run round though with no problems until I got to Robiac-Rochessadoule where there is a climb over the Col de Trélis back to our valley. I had to take evasive action not once but twice as I was forced off the narrow road by two oncoming vehicles that refused to accord precedence. The rules of the road are lost on "modern" drivers.

This might be my last outing for a while as hotter weather is on the way. We have 39/40° forecast for next weekend so it's likely the Mem'Sahib and I will be sitting in the house with the air-con on full blast. 30° is OK, I can live with that. After all it's summer in the south of France. It's meant to be hot, but 40° is just daft. I feel sorry for anyone camping in it.

Unfortunately, here in the sticks, all these events tend to be a long way away, and, with things as they presently are, I am finding difficulty in getting away. However, that does not mean that my Seven has been in any way idle, but all of its excursions out have been for mundane reasons and general domestic duties.

Since its distributor failure, it has done over 200 miles just budging about and was looking quite travel-stained, so, yesterday, being a reasonably dry day, I gave it a good wash and polish and vacuumed the interior. It now looks as if someone cares for it again, and is ready for more domestic duties.

I know that this post is probably as boring as hell, but I can console myself that, at least, the little car is still doing what it was designed to do and provides fun doing so.

Hi David

There is nothing, but nothing boring or mundane about driving a Seven! We’ve just been down to Builth for a walk along the Groe and a trip back over Castle bank.  As usual we were accosted by inquisitives in the car park and acknowledged with flashed lights on the road. I always feel special driving our car! So keep on reporting those trips over the hill to feed the horses, I’ll never get bored of them.

Cheers

Howard

Now Howard, folk ignore my Ruby in case it is their auntie or ancient uncle from Rhyader who might ask to get their lawn mowed. You in the mighty machine known for overtaking almost everything, people will assume are on your way to forest stages, or Olympic Autotests at the Builth Wells Showground car park. Are you asked to autograph photos of yourself at Monthlery? .

Hi Steve

Unfortunately the daredevil attributes fade when asked what’ll it do? I have to explain that while the car has plenty of reserve at fifty mph the driver has absolutely no reserve!

Cheers

Howard

Thank you Howard. For various reasons, the Seven has not been out since it's bath, but, given that the Landrover sprang a leak from a core plug under the manifold going up to the horses yesterday and is thus 'Hors de Combat' (Horses de Combat?) I suspect that I shall be using the Seven more whilst the Landy is under repair.

Minor argument with an angle grinder.
Ouch was not one of the many words that came from my mouth

Hi Charles

That looks like it needs sewing up!

Gloves?

Cheers

Howard
