RE: All Alloy Cup progress - AllAlloyCup - 24-07-2019

Hi Tony

It will be nice to meet up with all Duncan’s
panel beating students. The wing profiles
Were made in the last 20 minutes I was there!!!
on Duncan’s magic magnetic folder!

All my other efforts then were scrap!

I will be motoring on the road run just don’t come too
close as my brake lights may not be working yet.

Neil will be my riding mechanic and screen wiper as no vacuum
Wiper fitted so far! Will bring a car cover for overnight
Avoidance of thunderstorms.

Regards

Bill G

Ps huge amounts of heat coming in the cockpit! Perhaps I need to rig
the underbonnet canvas cover or just wear shorts?:-)

Less baked beans?

RE: All Alloy Cup progress - AllAlloyCup - 24-07-2019

Hi Ruairidh

You’ve lost me there, :-)

Admittedly it was pretty warm today anyway,
But I presume that’s the main purpose of that cover?
Deflecting heat from the cockpit?

Does it work though?

I have fitted a layer of sound proofing felt across the front floor of my fabric saloon. This makes things quieter but the main reason was to cover the gearbox and prevent hot air coming through from the engine. Much more comfortable in this weather.
I use Rainex on my windscreen. Works very well and I now never need the windscreen wiper when moving. Also has the advantage that the passenger can see out when it's raining. Very claustrophobic before.

RE: All Alloy Cup progress - AllAlloyCup - 25-07-2019

Hi Jim

Thanks for the hints, I’ve bought the Rainex but
still to put it on.

The heat in Cup comes through the 18” x 6” gaps along
Each side of the petrol tank so carpeting won’t do it!

I’ve got some temporary carpets fitted but their effect
on engine noise is minimal.

Surprisingly the Cherry Bomb “silencer” is not too noisy.

I’ve nothing to compare it with other than your Fabric saloon.

Wondering if some thin rubber discs under the engine
Mounting pads might quieten the engine a bit?

Regards

Bill

Ps Safe journey

I may have been criticized for using bodge tape to cover a hole in a non structural panel, but I hope you're joking about driving without brake lights!

RE: All Alloy Cup progress - Hedd_Jones - 25-07-2019

I have no lights on my chummy, let alone no brake lights

RE: All Alloy Cup progress - "Slack Alice" Simon - 25-07-2019

The noise will transmit through the bolts.   There has to be rubber all round so there is no metal to metal anywhere.

It doesn't make a lot of difference.    Changing 3 speed box to 4 speed did, though, in my case.

RE: All Alloy Cup progress - AllAlloyCup - 25-07-2019

Hi Hedd and Nick

I have brake lights and a brake light switch
but so far no joy, but working on it as I speak!!

Hedd probably uses the waving arm method?

Loaded up the Cup this morning and set off for
The SA7C Annual Rally at Guildtown , just north of Perth.

The VW’s 5 cyl 2.5l engine made light work of the huge trailer
but lightweight load ( 6 cwt?) got there about 2.45.

There is a bigger than normal turnout this year with perhaps 18 Gordon England cars swelling the mainly Scottish based members cars ( perhaps 80 entrants this year.

Excellent camping here and the bar-be-cue worked well before the rain started.

Catching up with lots of Forum members!!

Pretty dismal weather for Saturday though...
