RE: All Alloy Cup progress - Ruairidh Dunford - 20-04-2019

What a glorious day it was to visit Bill - the girls are very excited about your beach hut offer, thank you.

Very interesting to compare builds and the challenges it throws up, let’s hope the cars are complete for the gathering.  Here is the man himself!

Hi Duncan

Needless to say this Beach Hut needed fully restored!

In fact I had to hire a generator for two days to run the sanding machines.
I had some help with the painting though...

Back to the Cup build again today with the floors fitted permanently now?
though still able to be removed easily. Plus added the battery and tool boxes
Transmission tunnel along with the seats held in with Velcro.

Hope to hand stitch a gaiter for the handbrake using some
Spare leather.

New speedo and other cables arrived today from Jamie
At the A7Workshop. Chased the plater again !!!

I

I’m trying out some ideas about carpeting the floors
in this Cup. Original cars had half round transmission
tunnels but not sure if these were just painted?

Did Cups have carpets or just rubber mats?

I acquired a front part transmission cover with some bits I bought
Probably off a fairly early Chummy, or a Box?

So I have made a matching rear rectangular tunnel cover.
And will either carpet both covers or cover them in the blue leather
which I have loads left.

As regards a gaiter for the handbrake how did
The factory fix the gaiter to the square cover in the photo below?

Hope some Cup owners can shed light on these queries!

Regards

Bill G

Ps With a square tunnel you can stand a flask of tea and two (tea)cups!

Original Cups were carpeted bill, see here:

All of the original handbrake covers I have seen are unpainted aluminium like this (Hedd's car):

There was no gaiter on the type of transmission cover you have, originally.

Thanks Ruairidh, that Fred Dash car is a remarkable
survivor. Will our Cups last as long I wonder?
