Seconded as to what that man said above me Ruairidh! Oh to be doing a similar road trip though must content myself with the back roads of here in the South Island of New Zealand for the mo'. Did spot the Opinel couteau in an earlier pic in the thread ;-) & love the rising pavement sculptural piece your daughters are playing on higher up on this page

It could be a lot worse free spirit!! From where I'm sitting that sounds tolerable...

Aye Chris - 'tis quite tolerable (& no need for towing a trailer like some ;-)) - tho' for now all 3 7's are laid up in the garage with varying ailments & varying times to get back on the road. Each December I get to do a 6 day back country tour with mainly Model A's - the lads get a bit miffed being passed by a 7 going up hills ;-) ...... but oh to be a-chewing fine cheeses in the country of my ancestors like Ruairidh

Nice to hear from you again Paul, hope all is well?

We have many, many, Opinel knives - fantastic bits of kit!

All most good Ruairidh :-) - & progress on the 7's!
Aye the Opinels are a happy combination of simplicity & style :-)

On the subject of sharp pointy things that get confiscated at the airports, I have a custom made "Laguiole" pocket knife made by Laguiole Actiforge. It has a boars head stamped into the blade and the handle is made of juniper wood. This one has a slightly longer blade than the 4" normally acceptable in the UK.

I have no financial connection with the factory but they will deliver to the UK (and elsewhere). Beware that some of the Damascus steel versions are expensive (but very nice).
All knives are hand made and very tactile:

In the background of the photo you might notice that my keyboard is slightly different...

Reckless - was rather tempted to drop in the Laguiole name too but figured Ruairidh's Pearl's travels were far more important :-) - & aye it does look like your Q & W have a slight case of Francophone dropsey ;-)

Many thanks for this Reckless. You have solved my "Secret Santa" quandary at a stroke! (with apologies for mentioning Christmas before the end of August)

Happy to help. I ordered one for my son in law - it came in a presentation box and you can have the blade engraved FOC.
I spotted this also, which I thought our intrepid voyager might wish to hide away in the many storage areas on the Cabby. When not containing a length of saucisson it could carry a few spares:

Don't know if they'll post to the UK though.
