Help with raised head countersunk screws - Erich - 27-05-2018

I've been searching the websites and can't find BSW raised head countersunk(what we colonials call oval head) screws in 1/4 BSW. I initially tried to find 1/4 BSF but gave up and thought 1/4 BSW would be easier. I can't even seem to find these here in states in 1/4 20 UNC.  Stainless preferably, but unplaced would work and I'll plate them in nickel. Help please!

Erich in Seattle.

It's a struggle this side of the pond too Erich.
I needed (still do) them for my windscreen uprights - couldn't find them anywhere.
Not perfect but M6 raised countersunk slotted machine screws in stainless are available reasonably easily.

Hi try BA Bolts, the do BSW and other sizes and from his website he may do special orders. He is very helpful, I have sent him screws in the past which I was not sure of the thread and then ordered more screws to match.

Hi Eric,

Classic Fasteners here in Australia have 1/4" BSW Oval Head Stainless.

Nick,

Re your windscreen uprights - MG TA/TB/TC use 6 slotted raised head countersunk chrome machine screws on their windscreen uprights and also on the door locks and aeroscreens. The MG YA/YB use them on door handles and dashboard.

Thanks Jeff - ordered.

Thank you all. Ordered some from Classic Fasteners. They only have 1 3/4 in stock so I'll have to cut down, but good that they are available. One wouldn't think raised countersunk(oval head) in such a common size would be so hard to find.

I just received my order for screws from NTG Services (their item C219F), thinking, perhaps stupidly, that they would be right for the windscreen uprights on my 1932 Tourer.  I assumed they would be 1/4" BSF, but they turned out to be tiny BA screws!  Fortunately NTG will take these (very expensive) screws back for a refund.
If anyone is thinking of ordering screws from NTG then make sure you check the thread size with them first!
I have recently had 1/4" BSF countersunk raised head screws in a few different lengths from stainlessmiddleton.co.uk  They don't do chrome finish but their stainless ones are bright polished and hard to distinguish from chrome.  In the absence of chrome I shall be using them for sidescreen peg locking screws, dash panel screws and windscreen uprights.
