1938 starter - Charles Levien - 29-05-2025 I have a problem with my 1938 starter. The battery is fully charged and whangs the commutator shaft over very merrily but the starter dog is not always releasing. Suggestions please. Charles RE: 1938 starter - Robert Leigh - 29-05-2025 Is the scroll on the Bendix completely clean? It is supposed to be clean and dry without lubrication. RE: 1938 starter - Charles Levien - 29-05-2025 Thanks Robert, that’s helpful — I’m away for the w/e but will take the starter off next week and have a look. Charles RE: 1938 starter - Colin Morgan - 29-05-2025 If everything is clean and it still sticks, then the spring clips can be 'eased' a little so that they are less grippy - I had to do this on mine when I swapped the motor. Thanks — I’ll look out for that |
