1938 starter - Charles Levien - 29-05-2025

I have a problem with my 1938 starter. The battery is fully charged and whangs the commutator shaft over very merrily but the starter dog is not always releasing. Suggestions please.

Is the scroll on the Bendix completely clean? It is supposed to be clean and dry without lubrication.

Thanks Robert, that’s helpful — I’m away for the w/e but will take the starter off next week and have a look.

If everything is clean and it still sticks, then the spring clips can be 'eased' a little so that they are less grippy - I had to do this on mine when I swapped the motor.

Thanks — I’ll look out for that
