RE: Head removed - wet areas in zylinder 3 & 4 - mopetta - 21-12-2020 I took the cylinder off today - what a mess... Makes for fun to see other peoples pictures or their bad engines as dismantling the own engine Water fully blocked Oil everywhere Interesting, that is still run not too bad... RE: Head removed - wet areas in zylinder 3 & 4 - Bob Culver - 21-12-2020 The more oil burned the more rapidly oil blackens. Nevertheless that degree of blackness and tar is more characteristic of pre detergent oils. Are the oil rings totally plugged? The top land has been rubbing but very common, esp as split skirt pisons soon devlop clearance. Can get a vague idea of taper from change of ring gap; nearer 1/2 then 1/3. When were angle cut rings last marketed? RE: Head removed - wet areas in zylinder 3 & 4 - Howard Wright - 21-12-2020 Hi That is a seriously dirty engine. When I cleaned the crankcase on the RK I joked that we both had a serious paraffin bath together ![]() Your photos are great. Please keep them coming as you start to rebuild. Cheers Howard |
