The Archive has just been kindly donated 5, 10x8" drawings of the Bowden IFS system. As I understand it, the origins of these were from the maker himself. They are hand drawn rather 'rough' notes and not formal engineering drawings. It ocurred to me that as well as publishing the originals, it might be nice if someone skilled in the art might be prepared to redraw them in a more 'formal' manner. Does anyone with the appropriate background fancy taking on a project on behalf of the Archive? Rewards will be nil in monetary terms but the high in the esteem that person will be held in by the Archivist and the rest of the Austin 7 world...
Offers, as usual, by email to the Archivist
Many thanks in advance and Happy New Year to you all!

Battery Box and Batteries |

The battery box on my 28 chum is 7 1/4" square - the standard Exide i think is fitted has quite a lot of room around it so i have had to pack it out.
Given the numbers of 7's made I would have thought the battery suppliers would have made on to fit snugly.
Does anyone know a manufacturer of the 'correct' size ?
Happy New Year to all.

Checking emails this morning, I received one claiming to come from the forum, wanting to tell me about new comments. This has never happened before so I immediately deleted it. There has been a recent flurry of scam emails. Some based on someone's stolen sdress list, as happened to Julian Hunt. One earlier this week was claiming to come from DVLA, and some scams work on finding out about courier service, wanting the potential vistim to send credit card details, even thuogh the vital package had already been delivered. So should I worry about emails pretending to be from the forum, or is there a newly plugged in algorythm that wants to wake up contributors who have not gone onto the site recently enough?

Two types of Girling rear brakes? |

Hi,
Whilst overhauling a Girling braked rear axle I have come across a difference that I want to check with others. Firstly the axle itself came with ball end levers and the setup such that the adjuster was at the top of the backplate and the lever at the bottom. The lever at rest sat at about 10 degrees back from the vertical as you would expect. When I checked to make sure that they were round the correct way etc I found on the A7CA digital archive the following picture, http://archive.a7ca.org/collections/tech...tem/TD0010 which show both the backplates rotated by 90degrees and a different type of lever which require a fork on the cable end. So this wouldn't be an issue but I bought some replacement brake cams (originals badly worn) and when they arrived it would appear that the flats for the cotter are in a different position from the originals I removed. Upon investigation, it would appear that they are in possibly the correct position for the fork end levers, not the ball end...? So my question is is it just a case that there was a short period during which ball end levers went on Girling back axles before they switched over to 'fork end' levers and rotated the backplates? Therefore there would actually be two different types of girling brake cam needed???
regards
David
