“Quote these numbers” Plates
#1
The chassis number on the “Quote These Numbers” plate is self explanatory. What is the “Car No”
plate ? Where does one find this number ? Is there a specific font ?

As far as I am aware, the "Car Number" was copied from the factory ledger once the car was assembled and ready to leave the factory. It only appears on the car on the "Car Number" plate, so if you haven't got the original, you have lost the car number - unless, of course, the ledgers are still in existence somewhere.

From July 1936 separate Car and Chassis Numbers were discontinued. The "Chassis Number" was the only reference number from the introduction of New Ruby etc.

The most useful Cornwall Austin Seven Club website has  a section called 'Data and  Specifications' where you will find the note on a pdf  'Quote This Number' - where all is explained.

Cheers, Tony.
