Phoenix Crankshafts

Rumours are rife in the MG world that the above has gone into liquidation . Anybody know anything about it ?
I am always interested in any information about Rosengart details or current owners.

This once again proves that Austin's are ahead of MGs.
This has been discussed at length on these pages last month.
Yes, administrators were appointed and the company has been acquired, less a large debt to HMRC, by another company in the old car world.

I have been following the listings on Companies House for Phoenix and today noticed that the new company appears to have been dissolved.

Phoenix Crankshafts (International) Limited was an apparently largely non trading company owned by the same people who owned Phoenix Design and Engineering Limited. It's not a "new company" and has been around since the 1980's. Phoenix Design and Engineering Limited was the main trading entity that went bust. It also dated back to the 1980's.

Phoenix Crankshafts Limited was set up by someone unconnected with either company shortly before Phoenix Design and Engineering Limited called in the liquidators. The fact that the person who set up Phoenix Crankshafts Limited ended up being the buyer of the assets of the failed company may well be down to foresight and wisdom.

Sorry mostly for HMRC. 
The hit taken by trade creditors seems reasonably small in comparison, but painful all the same if you are on the receiving end.

It is very sad - they served the A7 community well.

I still have the first crank I bought from them fitted in my Ulster - I think it was £285.

Since then I have purchased/fitted over a 100 of them.

i noticed when the new owners took over, there was very quickly a NEW up to date website.

no mater were you check for there website now, it all now comes up as 404 SITE NOT FOUND??

thats for both phoenix international and phoenix cranks.

As ever, it looks as though the tax bill finished them off. Not keeping up with tax is a sure way to oblivion as HMRC have almost unlimited powers - especially if they suspect, for example, that outgoings on materials are not matched by sales of finished goods. It's a great shame, but the market for new cranks is still out there - let's hope somebody has the initiative and backing to fill it.

They're still in business AFAIK. But when the new management have a better understanding of costs vs end user prices, I  think that their crankshafts are unlikely to become cheaper.  For the couple of one off cranks I have had done by Phoenix, they have always been delivered many weeks later than the quoted timescale, wasn't a problem in my case, but that may not be the same for everyone.

Both times I have had cranks made I got quotes from other well known manufacturers, Phoenix were substantially cheaper for the same specification on both occasions, which may have something to do with the "old" business' failure.

When I visited the "new" company recently to pick up a crank, I was told that they had big backlog of work. Perhaps that would be a good reason for the "new" website having been taken down; they won't be needing any new business until there is a reasonable chance of giving a near and realistic date for delivery.
