Residency in France
#1
Hi everyone I’m now resident in France in the Charente. I’ve got my 1928 Fabric RK saloon here, and now need to register it and get insurance. Can you help please? Alf.

Hello Alf and welcome to the Club! I am based in Chabanais and there are some good clubs in this area, both English and French. Get in touch and if I can help I will.

On registration, don't be in too much of a rush. You will probably be required to apply for a Carte Grise Collection. The first step is to get an attestation from the FFVE, the French equivalent of FBHVC. At the last count the waiting period was 14 weeks for that before you apply for the Carte Grise. The FFVE website is helpful as is a knowledge of French, of course!

Good luck or bon courage as one says over here

Don't rely on the "French Austin 7" club - in the Chararente - Ian Wilson who is its "creator/president ??" is a racing boy and not interested in Austin 7s although just down the road to you. We have out RN down here in the Lot Dept 46, went to the 'Ramparts rally" in Angloueme in 2017 with the French MG club (Good bunch there) who welcome other makes. If possible join some local club as a bit of headed note paper from your president eases the way through the FFVE application. We had to get an attestation from the Bureau des Mines for "conformity", but I think that has changed now.
We are some way from you, (about 6 hours drive) but would be interested for a weekend meet up of A7s

Just found this which may help.

Welcome, Alf. Registering your RK in France is fairly simple as its a genuine car. but as already stated you need an "attestation" from the FFVE to start the registration procedure and there's a big backlog. Look at their website www.ffve.fr and it will tell you the procedure to follow. For insurance I use a company in Nimes called Thomas et Jonderko. They are classic car specialists. I pay 43€ for the RP, but that's just basic cover with roadside assistance.
