Now THAT’S what I call a road trip...good luck!

RE: Josie and Gez UK tour - Malcolm Parker - 16-03-2023

That is a fair old run!  Let's hope that July 2023 is not as hot as it was last year.

I thought about doing a trip around the North of Scotland but it looked as if accommodation would be difficult and very expensive with the popularity of the North Coast 500 long distance route.   Perhaps you are taking a camper van as a back-up vehicle?

We will follow your planning with interest.

RE: Josie and Gez UK tour - Duncan Grimmond - 16-03-2023

I'm impressed by your planned route and I'm sure you will have prepared well. However if you happen to need any assistance within a 30mile radius of J48 A1M (Boroughbridge0 a workshop and trailer are available. PM for a phone number.

RE: Josie and Gez UK tour - RH Insurance - 17-03-2023

Wow!  That's one hell of a road trip, Gez   Rolleyes

I live in Bournemouth, Gez - and have a spare room and garage.  About 35 mins west of Lymington...  You would be very welcome to bring Josie and stay.
My Mother also has a spare bedroom and secure electric gated entry / carport 1 mile west of Gloucester, too!
Emma

RE: Josie and Gez UK tour - Nick Salmon - 17-03-2023

Looks like another epic trip Gez. Happy to help if needed - can cover you within about 50 miles north of London. I'll email you my mobile number.

p.s. Are you going to be at Beaulieu for the National Rally on Sunday 2nd July? We could organise a 'Bon Voyage' sendoff - as we did for Chris Blakey when he set off for Japan.

RE: Josie and Gez UK tour - Chris KC - 17-03-2023

The best of luck to you.  I'm afraid I'm not really on your route so can't offer much in practical terms.

I'm sure I've asked this before, and forgotten the answer - but does the A7 breakdown register still exist? It could be most helpful in circs like these.

RE: Josie and Gez UK tour - Hugh Barnes - 17-03-2023

Physically, old copies of the Breakdown register must exist, but they would be well out of date by now. I cannot recall the date of the last one produced. In reality, the effort it took to maintain it was superceded by the Breakdown Insurance many peope now have.. But I get your point Chris, in this circumstance, it would be useful...

RE: Josie and Gez UK tour - squeak - 17-03-2023

I had a copy of the breakdown register with us when we did the grand tour in 2017 and I think Gez was on it!  Very comforting to have a list of assistance if needed. I love the idea of offering meetups  to share the journey and will certainly be following vicariously.

It was of great value to me once when I lost oil pressure in Newhaven on the way to the ferry and a very kind gentleman helped me get the car home. You're right Hugh, the need is not so great now that RH back-up is available - that said, I'd have to be in dire circs to use it, and it would be a shame to do so if you were simply caught out without a spare set of points or blew a core plug, for example. People tend to raise GDPR when anyone suggests making a list, but this is navigable if people consent to sharing their details. Workload I agree is another matter! And, reluctantly, I must say people are (rightly) a bit more cautious about sharing their contact details than was once the case.

p.s. I must add that RNLI is a very worthy cause & I hope people will give generously.
