How much for an Opal tourer ?? - e-richard - 05-08-2022 Two adverts on ebay right now. Anybody want to comment on the weird price differential? https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/363899354087 Austin Seven 7 Opal 2 Seater Tourer Project £8,950 Looks like its all there, but needs engine rebuild and potentially lots of other work. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/234634898492 1936 AUSTIN 7 OPAL CONVERTIBLE £7,000 Fully restored, quite smart, but not all original perhaps ? I rather like the bench seat but is that bad RE: How much for an Opal tourer ?? - JonE - 05-08-2022 second is just an estimate, and first is a project which unsurprisingly has been sitting on ebay for some months... make contact with your local club to find running cars which originate in the UK and have original registration plates! RE: How much for an Opal tourer ?? - Hedd_Jones - 05-08-2022 As far as I understood it a classified ad on ebay is just that. You should be able to contact the buyer and buy it at that price. That said if the sods would actually sell it at that price remains to be seen, they've just paid for the ad for exposure and are taking the mickey. RE: How much for an Opal tourer ?? - Mick Hobday - 05-08-2022 This is Baron's July 29th auction catalogue description: https://www.barons-auctions.com/view-lot/4591/for-sale-at-barons-auctions-1936-austin-seven-opal The car obviously failed to sell at the apparent reserve of £7,000 so they now appear to be seeking the same price on eBay. I suspect potential bidders would be put off by the lack of UK registration but it sounds as if Barons might have sorted that by now. It might be worth giving them a call if you're interested. It seems reasonable at £7000 despite the bench seat! The rear lamps would need changing for use in UK. RE: How much for an Opal tourer ?? - Tony Griffiths - 05-08-2022 The two-seater - needing what will almost certainly be a complete rebuild - is vastly overpriced. You are not buying a car, you are either paying to spend hundreds of hours (plus parts) on a do-it-yourself basis - or tripling the cost by having the major work done professionally. The Barons car does seem to be a decent buy. RE: How much for an Opal tourer ?? - Ivor Hawkins - 05-08-2022 Perhaps the unrestored car is overpriced because they think the registration number has a value... RE: How much for an Opal tourer ?? - Mike Costigan - 05-08-2022 Not only is the restoration project strong money, there are serious questions over its authenticity - not least the van Car Number apparently retained by original rivets... RE: How much for an Opal tourer ?? - John Cornforth - 05-08-2022 Wasn't the restoration project (and its inconsistencies) discussed on this forum some while ago ? Unfortunately I can't find the thread. RE: How much for an Opal tourer ?? - Reckless Rat - 05-08-2022 That was a different car, a boat -tail if I remember correctly RE: How much for an Opal tourer ?? - Dave Mann - 05-08-2022 I don't fancy the bench seat, on a right hand bend you and passenger could slide out the NS door. |
