If you purchased these yourself from Jamie, I am almost certain he would exchange them for the +.080" set you now require, for the cost of the postage Zeto.

Hello ,with regards to your pistons for sale I have an Austin 8 AP Tourer  1939 with hepolite pistons 7665 +060 size = 2.295/58.269mm .Do you know if the are interchangeable as I beleive that the big 7 engine was used in the prewar 8 thank you regards Ally

RE: New Pistons for sale - Jeff Taylor - 01-03-2018

My 1950's Hepolite catalogue confirms that the Austin Big Seven 900cc 1937 to 1939 and the New Eight 1939 onwards used the same engine and therefore the same Hepolite RS7665 pistons. However Big Seven pistons differ from those in the earlier model Austin Sevens 747cc 1923 to 1939 which are Hepolite RS11063.

The differences are as follows:
Austin Big Seven & New Eight: Bore: 2.235", Compression Height: 1.25", Length: 2.5"
Austin Seven: Bore: 2.20", Compression Height: 7/8", Length: 1.13/16"

Zeto will need to confirm if his are the earlier 747cc pistons (which I think they probably are) or Big Seven pistons.

Hi Ally, the pistons I have are for the 747cc Austin Seven, so not what you want.
Rgds

I thought that the Austin Big Seven and Austin Eight engines were different (not sure about pistons though) ?

Cheers, Tony.

RE: New Pistons for sale - Jeff Taylor - 01-03-2018

Certainly the pistons carry the same Hepolite RS7665 number and size specifications, Tony. Perhaps the 1939 New Eight had the same 'Big 7' engine with the post war Eights having a slightly different engine? The catalogue isn't clear on that point, merely saying the RS7665 pistons were fitted to the 1937 to 1948 'Big Seven' 8hp 900cc and the 'New Eight' CR 6.8 to 1.

I suggest Ally contact Robin Taylor of Austin Big 7 Spares, see what he suggests - email: robin.e.taylor@talktalk.net
